Being barefoot develops and strengthens one's balance and the operation of the foot. Therefore, children who have just learned to walk should walk barefoot whenever possible.

The primary function of footwear is to protect the feet from cold and damage. Footwear should be light, flexible, and shaped like the foot, and it should not have structures that support the curves of the foot. Many complications related to the feet (such as flat-footedness and hallux valgus) can probably be avoided at least to some extent through wearing appropriate footwear during childhood. |
